Release Notes
What's new in MomBooks.
2.1.1 Better manners, fresh polish
Coming soon
A tune-up with a lot of polish. Your devices now get along like old friends, and every screen got a fresh press.
- iCloud with better manners. When another device deletes entries or a whole book while this one was napping, MomBooks says what went and moves you to a book that's still there.
- Edits that survive a deletion. Edited an entry just as another device deleted it? It shows up as a sync conflict, and Keep Local brings it back.
- Reconciliations stay put. One finished on another device is no longer a false conflict, and nothing is undone.
- No recurring twins. If two devices post the same recurring entry before syncing, MomBooks spots the twin and voids the extra in one tap.
- Backed up before sync (Pro). Turning iCloud Sync on backs up every book first, and the sync log explains hiccups in plain words.
- A lock that means it. The privacy lock now covers everything, open forms and alerts included, and your half-typed entry is waiting when you return. On the Mac it locks when you lock your screen or step away, not every time you switch apps, and unlocks like Passwords with Touch ID or your Mac's password. Lock MomBooks (⌃⌘L) locks at once.
- Siri while locked. Siri can still jot down purchases; they wait as pending for your review.
- iPad tab bar. MomBooks opens on a tab bar with the sidebar a tap away, and keeps your place when you resize a window.
- Spit and polish. Filled-in form fields keep their names, reports fit an iPhone without hiding amounts, small buttons are easier to tap, large text stops clipping, VoiceOver reads the balance sheet properly, Reduce Motion is respected, and iPhone gives a little tap when you save.
- Void from the register, and filter it by Uncleared or Voided. On iPhone, switch books from Accounts, Reports, and Budgets too.
- PDFs, tidier. Reports print in landscape with nothing trimmed, and PDF receipts preview on iPhone and iPad.
- Open from Finder or Files. Journals and encrypted backups open straight from where they're saved.
- Each book keeps to itself. Pickers, suggestions, and new accounts stay in the book you're in, in its currency.
- Numbers, minded. Amounts show at full precision, and budgets and the chart of accounts total each currency on its own.
- Prices and lot costs in the form (Pro). Give any line a price or lot cost; enter two of quantity, per unit, and total, and MomBooks works out the third.
- Sturdier imports. Bank imports keep their dates across time zones, tricky CSV quotes and debit columns read correctly, and Beancount payees import exactly as written.
- Several budgets per book (Pro).
- Safer linked files (Pro). A linked journal file that's emptied by mistake pauses sync instead of voiding your entries.
2.1.0 Close the books, reconcile, and repeat
October 2026
- Recurring entries. Make any transaction repeat — weekly, every two weeks, monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Due entries wait for you to post or skip; nothing posts on its own, and nothing posts twice across your devices.
- Reconciliation history. Every finished reconciliation is kept, the next one picks up where the last left off, and reconciled entries carry a seal. Undo the latest if you need to. Credit cards reconcile in statement terms — a card owing $500 is entered as 500.
- Close the year. Close a period from Manage Books and it's locked, so a filed year can't change by accident. Void the closing entry to reopen it.
- Void and reverse from any entry. Correct a mistake and keep the record. Reversals and the entries they offset are clearly marked in the register.
- Finished-year reports (Pro). Choose Last Year or any date range. The income statement compares with last year and opens the transactions behind each line.
- A fiscal year for each book. Set per book and synced; budgets and year-to-date follow it.
- Smarter imports. Bank rows get the category you used for that payee before, and CSV column mappings are remembered for each bank (Pro).
- Quicker entry. The form starts blank and balances on one amount. Start typing a payee and pick a suggestion to fill in its usual accounts.
- Starting balances. New asset and liability accounts can begin with an opening balance.
- Trial balance as of any date, listing each account's debit or credit.
- Your 1099 thresholds (Pro). Set the Form 1099 reporting threshold for each tax year — from the 1099 report or Settings → Form 1099 Thresholds.
- Back up every book as plain-text journal files from Settings.
- Polish. A fresh full-bleed icon, tidier Mac forms, and faster lookups as your history grows.
- Update every device. Your ledger is upgraded automatically the first time you open 2.1. Reconciliations, recurring entries, and fiscal years sync only between devices on 2.1; older versions keep syncing everything else.
2.0.1 Every penny, comma, and debit in balance
September 2026
- Amounts read the way you typed them. Whether you enter $1,500.00, European 1.500,00 €, or accounting parentheses like $(45.00), MomBooks reads exactly what you meant — no truncated thousands, no runaway decimals.
- Two-way file sync (Pro). Edit your
.ledger,.beancount, or hledger journal in your favorite editor and MomBooks merges the changes cleanly, keeping price lines, directives, and the notes inside each entry. If the same entry changed on both sides, sync pauses and asks rather than guessing. - Budgets that keep time. Quarterly and annual budgets now cover a real quarter or year, and zero-based (envelope) budgets show how much is Ready to Assign.
- Map any bank CSV (Pro). Pick separate debit and credit columns, memo, and category. Tab-separated files are welcome.
- Every currency in its place. The Balance Sheet and Net Worth total in your book's currency and list other holdings beside it, never added together.
- 1099 by the year. Reporting thresholds follow the tax year you're filing for.
- Year-end close records closing entries for each book and currency, and void and reverse keep corrections on the record.
- Snappier everywhere. Large ledgers open, reconcile, import, and export without freezing, with progress shown while they work.
- More dependable iCloud sync. Books that arrive late from another device and the audit trail stay where they belong, and a real conflict is flagged only when this device had its own unsent edit.
- Siri and Shortcuts recognize your Pro subscription right away, even when MomBooks wasn't already running.
- Sealed details stay sealed. Protected bank and tax details remain encrypted even if a Face ID prompt is canceled mid-edit.
